These answers are written in simple student language with proper points, as expected by CBSE examiners for full marks.

Section A – MCQs (Answers)

1. Mitochondria

2. Aluminium

3. Coulomb

4. Positive

5. Pulmonary vein

6. Carbon dioxide

7. Less than 7

8. Kinetic energy

9. Cochlea

10. Urea

Section B – Very Short Answer

11. Define nutrition.

Nutrition is the process by which organisms take in food and utilise it for growth, repair and energy.

12. Write the chemical formula of slaked lime.

The chemical formula of slaked lime is Ca(OH)₂.

13. What is an electric circuit?

An electric circuit is a closed conducting path through which electric current flows.

14. What is seed dispersal?

Seed dispersal is the process by which seeds are spread away from the parent plant.

15. Name the hormone responsible for fight or flight response.

The hormone responsible for fight or flight response is Adrenaline.

Section C – Short Answer

16. Explain anaerobic respiration.

Anaerobic respiration is the breakdown of glucose in the absence of oxygen.

  • Occurs in yeast and muscle cells
  • Produces less energy
  • Forms alcohol or lactic acid

17. Write three differences between acids and bases.

Acids Bases
Sour in taste Bitter in taste
Turn blue litmus red Turn red litmus blue
Produce H⁺ ions Produce OH⁻ ions

18. State Faraday’s laws of electrolysis.

  • Mass deposited is proportional to quantity of electricity passed.
  • Different substances deposited by same charge are proportional to their chemical equivalents.

19. Describe the structure of the brain.

The human brain has three main parts:

  • Cerebrum – controls thinking and voluntary actions
  • Cerebellum – maintains balance and posture
  • Medulla – controls involuntary actions

(Draw neat labelled diagram of brain)

20. Explain scattering of light.

Scattering of light is the phenomenon in which light is deviated in different directions by small particles.

Example: Blue colour of the sky.

21. What are renewable resources? Give examples.

Renewable resources are resources that can be replenished naturally.

Examples: Solar energy, wind energy, water.

Section D – Long Answer

22. Explain the process of nutrition in plants.

Plants show autotrophic nutrition through photosynthesis.

  • Carbon dioxide enters through stomata.
  • Water is absorbed by roots.
  • Chlorophyll traps sunlight.
  • Glucose is formed.

Chemical equation:

6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂

23. Describe reproduction in human beings.

Human beings reproduce sexually.

  • Male produces sperms.
  • Female produces ova.
  • Fertilisation forms zygote.
  • Zygote develops into embryo.

24. Derive the formula for electric power.

Electric power is the rate of doing work.

P = Work / Time

Since Work = V × Q and Q / t = I,

P = VI

Using V = IR,

P = I²R

25. Explain the working of human ear.

The human ear has three parts:

  • Outer ear collects sound waves.
  • Middle ear amplifies vibrations.
  • Inner ear converts vibrations into nerve impulses.

(Draw neat labelled diagram of ear)

Section E – Case Study Based

26.

a) The phenomenon is Phototropism.
b) The hormone responsible is Auxin.
c) Plants bend towards light to get maximum sunlight for photosynthesis.
