Class 10 Science

Previous Board Examination – Full Solved Answers (Set 2)

These answers are written exactly in the way a Class 10 student should write in the CBSE Board Examination to score maximum marks.

Section A – MCQs (Answers)

1. Platelets

2. Zinc

3. Infinity

4. Watt

5. Thyroxine

6. CaOCl₂

7. Phloem

8. Potential energy

9. Concave mirror

10. Sulphur dioxide

Section B – Very Short Answer

11. What is transpiration?

Transpiration is the process by which plants lose water in the form of water vapour through stomata present on the leaves.

12. Write the chemical name of baking soda.

The chemical name of baking soda is Sodium hydrogen carbonate (NaHCO₃).

13. Define electric current.

Electric current is defined as the amount of electric charge flowing through a conductor per unit time.

14. What is heredity?

Heredity is the transmission of traits from parents to their offspring through genes.

15. Name the plant hormone responsible for growth.

Auxin is the plant hormone responsible for growth.

Section C – Short Answer

16. Explain the function of the heart.

The heart is a muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body.

  • It pumps oxygenated blood to all body parts.
  • It receives deoxygenated blood and sends it to lungs for purification.

17. Write three properties of bases.

  • Bases are bitter in taste.
  • They turn red litmus blue.
  • They produce OH⁻ ions in aqueous solution.

18. State Ohm’s law.

Ohm’s law states that at constant temperature, the current flowing through a conductor is directly proportional to the potential difference across it.

Mathematically, V = IR

(Draw a simple circuit diagram)

19. Describe the structure of the heart.

The human heart has four chambers:

  • Right atrium
  • Right ventricle
  • Left atrium
  • Left ventricle

It has valves that prevent backflow of blood.

(Draw neat labelled diagram)

20. Explain the dispersion of light.

Dispersion of light is the phenomenon of splitting of white light into its constituent colours when it passes through a prism.

The colours formed are VIBGYOR.

21. What is non-biodegradable waste? Give examples.

Non-biodegradable waste is waste that cannot be decomposed by microorganisms.

Examples: Plastic, glass, polythene.

Section D – Long Answer

22. Explain transportation in human beings.

Transportation in human beings is carried out by the circulatory system.

  • The heart pumps blood.
  • Arteries carry oxygenated blood.
  • Veins carry deoxygenated blood.
  • Blood transports nutrients, oxygen and hormones.

23. Describe reproduction in human beings.

Human beings reproduce sexually.

  • Male produces sperms.
  • Female produces ova.
  • Fertilisation forms zygote.
  • Zygote develops into embryo.

24. Derive the formula for electric current.

Electric current is defined as:

I = Q / t

Where Q is charge and t is time.

25. Explain defects of vision and their correction.

Common defects of vision are:

  • Myopia – corrected using concave lens.
  • Hypermetropia – corrected using convex lens.
  • Presbyopia – corrected using bifocal lens.

(Draw ray diagrams)

Section E – Case Study Based

26.

a) The process is Transpiration.
b) Stomata are involved.
c) Wind speed affects transpiration.
