Class 10 Social Science

Exam Writing Strategy + Examiner Valuation Secrets

This guide is written from the examiner’s point of view to help students score maximum marks in the CBSE Class 10 Social Science Board Examination.

1️⃣ How Examiners Evaluate Answer Scripts

  • Examiners do not read full answers line by line.
  • They scan answers for keywords.
  • Marks are awarded point-wise, not paragraph-wise.
  • Neat presentation gives a positive impression.

Golden Rule: Correct points + keywords = Marks

2️⃣ How to Write Answers (Marks-wise)

✔ 1 Mark Questions

  • Answer in one clear sentence.
  • No explanation needed.

✔ 3 Mark Questions

  • Write 3 separate points.
  • Each point = 1 mark.
  • Use bullet points.

✔ 5 Mark Questions

  • Write Introduction (1 line).
  • Write 4–5 points with headings.
  • Conclusion (1 line).

3️⃣ Perfect Answer Structure (Model)

Question: Explain the causes of the French Revolution.

How Examiner Likes the Answer:

  • Cause 1: Social inequality
  • Cause 2: Heavy taxation
  • Cause 3: Absolute monarchy
  • Cause 4: Enlightenment ideas

✍️ Even if language is simple, points must be correct.

4️⃣ Map & Diagram Questions – Scoring Area

  • Use sharp pencil.
  • Write labels clearly.
  • Do not overcrowd the map.
  • Even partial correctness gives marks.

Tip: Always attempt map questions first.

5️⃣ Time Management Strategy

  • First 15 minutes → remember answers.
  • Section A → 25 minutes.
  • Section B & C → 60 minutes.
  • Section D & E → 70 minutes.
  • Last 10 minutes → revision.

6️⃣ Common Mistakes Students Make

  • Writing long stories instead of points.
  • Not underlining keywords.
  • Skipping map questions.
  • Leaving questions half answered.

7️⃣ Examiner’s Final Advice to Students

  • Attempt all questions.
  • Never leave blanks.
  • Write neatly.
  • Stick to syllabus terms.
  • Confidence matters.

Remember: You are not writing to impress — you are writing to score.
