Introduction — The Soul of Sound

Every language has music. In English, the music often comes from diphthongs — double vowel sounds that glide from one vowel to another in the same syllable. When you say time, your mouth moves from /a/ to /ɪ/ — that sliding sound makes your speech natural and expressive.

Telugu: డిప్‌థాంగ్ అంటే ఒకే అక్షరంలో రెండు స్వరాలు కలిసిపడి ఒక మృదువైన శబ్దాన్ని ఇచ్చే శబ్దం.

(  Grammar Tip — Smooth Glide

Grammar Tip – The Secret of Sound Flow

When two vowels meet, English doesn’t stop — it flows.
This “sound glide” is what makes English pleasant and musical to the ear.
Many learners break the sound or pause, but fluent speakers slide naturally from one vowel to another.

For example:

In play, the sound moves from /p/ → /l/ → /eɪ/ (ప్లే — plei)

In go, it slides from /g/ → /əʊ/ (గో — gō)

In time, your mouth moves from /t/ → /aɪ/ → /m/ (టైమ్ — taim)

Tip for learners:

1. Never pronounce each vowel separately. Feel the sound glide — it’s one movement, not two.

2. Practice in front of a mirror — your lips should move smoothly, not jerk or pause.

3. Record yourself saying pairs like day → play → say or boy → joy → toy; then listen.

Telugu Explanation:
ఇంగ్లీష్‌లో రెండు స్వరాలు కలిసినప్పుడు మధ్యలో విరామం లేకుండా “స్లైడ్”‌గా ఉచ్చరించాలి.
అదే “ద్విస్వర శబ్దాల మాధుర్యం.” ఇది మాటలను సాఫీగా, సుందరంగా చేస్తుంది.

Grammar Focus:
Diphthongs are phonetic combinations, not grammar structures — but they improve pronunciation, sentence rhythm, and speaking confidence.
The smoother your glide, the more fluent you sound!   )

When two vowels meet (like oi, ai, ou), do not pause — glide smoothly between them. Diphthongs are movement, not separation.
